The Citi Strata Elite℠ Card is a new release this year, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most compelling premium cards out there. My husband grabbed it recently, and after seeing the perks firsthand, I’m tempted to apply too. The welcome bonus is massive, and if you get the card now, you can take advantage of benefits for this year, next year, and the following January, helping offset the higher annual fee right from the start. This is called the Triple Dip!
One of the BEST parts about this premium card is that it comes with calendar-year benefits, which means you can sometimes double-dip or even triple-dip the perks while only paying one annual fee.
Here’s the simple version:
If you apply right now, you can use the two biggest benefits immediately:
Use both before the year ends, then again in 2026, and then one more time in early 2027 before your next annual fee posts.
And here’s the best part: your annual fee will likely hit in late December or early January, but you have 30 days to decide whether you want to keep the card, cancel it, or downgrade it. So you’re not locked in.
This means you could realistically get:
$200 + $300 (2025)
$200 + $300 (2026)
$200 + $300 (January 2027)
= $1,500 in credits
ALL from one annual fee…
plus a HUGE welcome bonus on top of it.
This is why timing matters — and why you do not want to miss this window.
On top of that, these points transfer to so many great partners — including American Airlines, which is rare. And below, I’ll show you exactly how easy it is to use the hotel credit.
Many of the premium benefits reset every calendar year. When you apply near the end of the year—especially in Q4—you can use the benefits for the remainder of this year and again next year and early 2027 if you time it right. For example, applying in December lets you redeem the $300 hotel credit and the $200 splurge credit before December 31. Then, when January hits, those credits reset, giving you a second round long before your next annual fee is due. Then again in January of 2027.
Tip: If you can’t complete a hotel stay this year, you only need to book it by 12/31 to trigger the $300 credit. Your actual travel dates can be later.
The card packs in multiple credits that can easily wipe out, or even exceed, the $595 fee if used properly. Among them:
So if you apply now, you’ll use the calendar credits in 2025 and then again in 2026 and once again in January of 2027 — effectively stretching the value.
One of the biggest highlights of this card is the ability to transfer ThankYou Points to American Airlines AAdvantage® at a 1:1 rate. This is a massive win for families, because American miles stretch far. They frequently run award sales—recently dropping flights as low as 5,000 miles. I recently spotted a Phoenix to St. Lucia route for just 8,000 miles one way!
And the value doesn’t stop with American-operated flights. AAdvantage miles can be used to book an incredible list of partner airlines directly on AA’s website, including Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways, Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, Qantas, Etihad, Air Tahiti Nui, and Fiji Airways.
Because you’re locking in the first year’s value early and likely getting a large chunk of the benefits soon, you’re in a strong position: after your one-year anniversary, if you decide the card doesn’t match your travel habits, you can downgrade or close it — and you’ve already gained a ton of value.
The Citi Strata Elite comes with strong lounge benefits.
You’ll receive Priority Pass lounge access for yourself plus two guests, which is perfect if you’re traveling with kids or another adult. Authorized users can also get Priority Pass access for a $75 fee, which could be useful for large families.
One of the standout perks is the four Admirals Club passes you get each calendar year. Each pass covers one adult and up to three children under 18, as long as you’re flying American Airlines or another Oneworld partner. For families, this is huge, it’s rare to see lounge access that includes multiple kids without extra cost. These passes expire at the end of the calendar year, so make sure to use them before December 31.
This also makes the Strata Elite a compelling alternative to the Venture X, especially now that guest access is being removed from Capital One Lounges. With this card, you’ll still have reliable lounges to use before your flights, plus the added bonus of family-friendly Admirals Club access.
Citi Thank You points are flexible and valuable! If you are not a fan of American Airlines, you have so many other choices!
Hot tip: Citi has been offering some fantastic transfer bonuses lately, so keep an eye out if you’re earning ThankYou Points; your points could go even further.

While all of these transfer partners are valuable, American Airlines is the true standout. No major bank, other than Bilt, transfers to AAdvantage, making this a rare and extremely useful option. Another underrated gem is Choice Privileges, where your points convert at double the rate and can unlock some incredible high-value hotel redemptions.
If you:
Because you apply now, you lock in benefits for the remainder of 2025 and then again for 2026. And if after one year you find the annual fee isn’t justified, you downgrade or close with minimal regret.
