10 of the Best Ways to Use Venture Miles for Families

With the huge 100,000-mile bonus currently available on the Capital One Venture X, this is the perfect time to talk about the best ways families can use Capital One Venture miles. These are some of the easiest points to redeem, especially since you can simply erase travel purchases for cashback value, but to get maximum value, you’ll want to understand Capital One’s travel partners and the incredible flights you can book through them.

I almost always use my Capital One Venture miles for flights; domestic, international, economy, or business class. I used to redeem them sometimes for Vacasa stays, but now that option is gone, I’m focusing this guide on the best flight redemptions and a new hotel partner that has some exciting sweet spots worth checking out.

Capital One gives you so many choices that the real question isn’t “Where should I transfer my points?” but rather “Where do I want to go?” With unique partners—including newly added Japan Airlines—and strong hotel options, there are tons of possibilities for families looking to stretch their miles as far as possible.

Before we dive into the best ways to use your miles, here’s the complete list of Capital One’s transfer partners.

1) Transfer to Virgin Atlantic to book flights

Capital One often offers transfer bonuses to Virgin Atlantic, which can make your miles stretch even further. Most people know Virgin Atlantic for their great award pricing on flights to London, but did you know you can book so much more than just Virgin Atlantic flights to the UK?

Virgin Atlantic points unlock incredible sweet spots on partner airlines, including routes to Europe, Japan, Hawaii, and even premium cabins on Delta (when pricing is good).

Virgin Atlantic book for 29k.

If you want tons of flight inspiration, check out my post on the Top 10 Ways to Use Virgin Atlantic Points for a full list of amazing redemptions you can book using your Capital One Venture Miles.

2) Transfer your Venture Miles to Singapore Airlines to book flights in economy or business

If you’re booking business class, you’ll usually find better award rates through Air Canada Aeroplan than booking directly with Singapore Airlines. However, for economy, Singapore Airlines often has the lowest award pricing.

One of the best parts about using KrisFlyer miles is that you can often snag up to 5 economy seats if you book right when the schedule opens, 355 days in advance. If you’re not flying on a weekend or peak date, you may not need to book that far ahead, but booking early gives families the best chance at multiple award seats.

We’ve personally booked several great redemptions using Singapore Airlines miles, including:

  • Tokyo (NRT) → Los Angeles (LAX) in economy for 38,500 miles (now 42,500) + $44 per person
  • JFK → Frankfurt in business class for around 75,000 miles (now 89,000) before the most recent price increases
    • This route can also be booked through Air Canada Aeroplan for 60,000 miles each way
  • Singapore → Frankfurt in business class
    • We booked 4 seats via Air Canada Aeroplan for 80,000 miles each
    • And a 5th seat directly with Singapore Airlines for 123,000 KrisFlyer miles
    • We originally held a Premium Economy seat while waiting for business class to open, and about a week later, a seat popped up.

To search for award space, you’ll need a free KrisFlyer account. And before you start searching, make sure you know which routes Singapore Airlines actually operates, which you can find on their website.

Book Los Angeles to Singapore with a free stopover in Tokyo for just 44,000 points each way.

3) Transfer your Venture Miles to I Prefer Rewards and double your points

Venture Miles transfer to I Prefer Hotel Rewards at a 1:2 ratio, which means your points can go twice as far, and there may be some really strong value here. Since this is a newer Capital One hotel partner, always compare the cash price vs. the points price to make sure you’re getting solid value (I personally aim for 1.50–2 cents per point, unless your goal is to just not spend cash).

The Fitzwilliam Hotel Belfast is a 5 star beautiful hotel in Ireland and the cash rate for the night shown below comes to $568 USD including tax. Award nights cost 75,000 I Prefer points, but remember when you transfer Capital One miles to I Prefer at a 1:2 ratio, you only need to transfer 37,500 Venture Miles.

That gives you a value of roughly 1.5 cents per point, which is a solid redemption for a luxury hotel.

4) Transfer your Venture Miles to Air Canada Aeroplan to book Lufthansa, Singapore, or United

Air Canada Aeroplan is one of the most versatile loyalty programs, but it truly shines when booking business-class award flights. Economy awards, especially international, tend to price on the higher side, though domestic economy redemptions can offer good value. As always, there are exceptions, and Aeroplan’s partner network opens up some incredible opportunities.

One of my recent redemptions was booking an international economy flight from Phoenix to French Polynesia, flying United for 35,000 points one way. This was an amazing find because it departed from our home airport, and we didn’t have to position to LAX or SFO as most itineraries require.

Aeroplan is also excellent for booking premium cabins. We booked Singapore Airlines business class from Singapore to Frankfurt, a 14.5-hour flight, for just 80,000 points—an incredible value for such a long route. You can also fly Singapore to JFK for only 87,500 points through Aeroplan.

For comparison, booking the exact same flights directly through Singapore Airlines would cost 103,500 miles for a Saver award or 123,000 miles for a Standard award. Aeroplan can offer huge savings on these premium routes.

Versus booking direct on Singapore Airlines:

Fly all the way to Johannesburg for just 110,000 points one way on Ethiopian Airlines.

You can also book Lufthansa’s new Allegris business class from Chicago to Munich for just 70,000 Aeroplan miles each way, which is an amazing deal for a brand-new premium cabin product. Although we booked through lifemiles program for 69,000 points, its basically the same deal through Air Canada.

5) Transfer to Japan Mileage Bank to Book Round-Trip Business or Economy to Europe

Capital One recently added Japan Airlines Mileage Bank as a transfer partner. While the transfer ratio isn’t 1:1 (it’s 2:1.5), there are still some truly incredible sweet spots, especially if you catch a transfer bonus. With a bonus, JAL can offer some of the best award deals you’ll find all year.

One of the standout redemptions is booking a round-trip business class on British Airways or American Airlines for just 85,000 JAL miles. Even with taxes of around $650 (less for AA), this is still an exceptional value. For context, British Airways often charges $700+ in taxes for a one-way flight, so getting a full round-trip in business class for 85K miles plus $650 is a phenomenal deal.

This specific itinerary below is from Chicago to Milan and return.

Tip:
Don’t search for award space directly on Japan Airlines’ website; it’s not user-friendly. Instead, use partner sites like Cathay Pacific Asia Miles or British Airways to check availability, then book through JAL.

6) Transfer Venture Miles to Turkish Miles & Smiles to book United Economy or Turkish Business

Turkish Airlines offers one of the best sweet spots in award travel. You can fly Turkish Airlines business class for just 65,000 miles one way, which is an great value for a premium cabin. Turkish is known for having an excellent business class product, and their flagship lounge in Istanbul is consistently ranked among the best in the world.

The Turkish Miles&Smiles program can be a little quirky to use, especially when searching for award space directly on their website. I personally prefer using Seats.aero to quickly check availability; it’s much easier and saves a ton of time when hunting for those great Turkish or United redemptions.

Miles&Smiles is also a great program for booking United Airlines economy flights, with award rates starting as low as 10,000 miles each way on domestic routes IF you can find availability. This makes it a fantastic option for families looking to stretch their points even further.

7) Transfer to Cathay Pacific to Book Economy or Business Class Flights to Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles has some fantastic sweet spots, especially for long-haul flights and family bookings.

We recently booked LAX → Hong Kong in economy for just 27,000 miles one way, which is an unbelievable deal for a 16-hour flight. Even better, we were able to book all five seats for our family, which can be harder to achieve on long-haul Asia award flights. You can also book this route for just 88,000 miles in business class! Unfortunately for families, they only seem to release two business class seats at a time.

Asia Miles also offers strong value for British Airways business class redemptions. Taxes are generally much lower, and the award rates are more reasonable than other programs. For example, a one-way business class flight from Chicago to Europe can be booked for 63,000 Asia Miles and just under $300 in tax, a great price for the Club Suite.

For just 63,000 miles plus $282, you can fly British Airways Business Class Club Suite.

You can also fly from San Francisco to Dubai on British Airways for 38,000 in economy or 115,000 in business class.

8) Transfer your Miles to Qantas to Book Flights to Tahiti for as low as 29,000 Points

One of the best sweet spots with Qantas is booking Air Tahiti Nui from Los Angeles (LAX) to Papeete (PPT) for just 29,000 points one way in economy. This is an incredible value, and award space is often generous. I’ve seen as many as nine seats available on the same flight, which is great for families.

Business class, however, is not quite as strong of a deal at 82,000 points each way, so economy is definitely where the value shines with this redemption.

Or fly to Auckland from San Francisco on Fiji Airways for 43,200 points each way.

Another idea is to fly to Japan via Hawaiian Airlines for just 34,700 althought taxes at $171 is rather high.

9) Transfer Venture Miles to Flying Blue to Book Economy or Business Flights to Europe

Flying Blue is one of the BEST programs for families, thanks to two huge perks:

1) Kids ages 2–11 get 25% off award rates (Air France & KLM, not partner flights)
2) Free stopovers for up to 1 year (this is how we spent 3 nights in Paris without using extra points!)

If you want a full breakdown of how stopovers work, read my post here. And if you’re new to Flying Blue, I also have a complete guide linked here.

Award Prices With Flying Blue

Flying Blue offers some incredibly family-friendly pricing:

  • Economy: as low as 18,750 miles during Promo Rewards, or around 25,000 miles standard
  • Business Class: often 45,000 miles during promos, or 60,000 miles standard

They typically release multiple seats, making this program one of the strongest options for families, even in business class. We absolutely loved our Air France business class experience!

Our Favorite Flying Blue Redemptions (Real Examples!)

We use Flying Blue all the time, and here are some of our best redemptions:

Please note that some of these routes have been devalued and now require more miles than when we originally booked them.

  • LAX → Athens (via Amsterdam) on KLM
    • 15,000 miles for adults
    • 11,750 miles for kids
  • French Polynesia (PPT) → LAX
    • 25,000 miles for adults
    • 18,750 miles for kids
  • Phoenix → Oslo with a free stopover in Paris
    • around 20,000 miles each
  • Phoenix → Lisbon in economy
    • 20,000 miles each
  • Paris → Phoenix in business class
    • 50,000 miles each
  • Phoenix → Taipei (direct on China Airlines!)
    • 36,500 miles in economy
    • 73,000 miles in business class

Flying Blue consistently provides some of the lowest award rates we’ve seen, especially for families needing 4–5 seats.

Extra Sweet Spot Options

  • Great for booking Delta flights when Delta’s own pricing is sky-high
  • Options for West Jet flights, like routes into Calgary
  • Strong partner network that makes positioning easier

Flying Blue is hands-down one of the most valuable programs for families—flexible routing, frequent award sales, kid discounts, AND free stopovers make it unbeatable for long-haul travel.

10) Transfer to British Airways to Turn your Miles into Avios

Where do I even begin with British Airways Avios? This used to be one of my absolute favorite loyalty programs before several devaluations, but it still holds a special place in my heart because of how many amazing redemptions we’ve booked over the years.

These days, American Airlines flights are usually best booked through Qatar Airways Privilege Club or Finnair, since they offer lower award pricing than British Airways for the same routes. For example, flights from the West Coast to Hawaii often cost around 15,000–16,000 miles each way through Qatar (as shown below) or Finnair.

One thing I still love about Avios:
Once your points are in any Avios program, you can freely move them between British Airways, Qatar Airways, Finnair, Iberia, and Aer Lingus. This gives you endless flexibility and multiple ways to find the best pricing.

Tip: Aer Lingus has economy flights as low as 13,000 miles each way as shown below. This screenshot is from British Airways, but you can book the same flight on Aer Lingus. Read all about that HERE.

Our Favorite Avios Redemptions

Here are some of the best flights we’ve booked through Avios over the years, some before devaluations, but still great examples of how powerful this loyalty program can be:

Premium Cabin Redemptions

  • Qatar Airways Qsuites (as shown below) booked through British Airways
    • Required 70,000 Avios, but we had a 30% transfer bonus, making it an incredible deal
  • British Airways business class
    • 77,000 Avios + ~$400 in taxes
  • Qatar Airways business class (not Qsuites) through Avios
    • Malé (MLE) → USA for 70,000 Avios, which is an incredible value

Economy Sweet Spots

  • Multiple Hawaii flights back when they were priced at 13,000 Avios each (before devaluation, plus a 30% transfer bonus made them even cheaper)
  • Edinburgh → Phoenix
    • 30,000 Avios (we booked during a 30% bonus)
  • Phoenix → New York
    • 10,000 Avios (we booked during a 30% bonus)
  • Iberia economy
    • 21,000 Avios, or 16,400 Avios each, during a transfer bonus

Even though British Airways has devalued some routes, the Avios program is still incredibly useful—especially because you can combine programs and take advantage of transfer bonuses to stretch your Capital One miles even further.
