We recently stayed at the newly remodeled and rebranded Grand Hyatt in Scottsdale, Arizona, formerly the Hyatt Regency. We booked a stay on Valentine’s Day with my sister and brother-in-law who were visiting from out of town. Instead of paying over $600 per night, we used just 29,000 Hyatt points per night, which I transferred from my Chase Sapphire Preferred® Credit Card. There’s nothing better than a nearly FREE stay at a luxury resort!

Here’s what made our experience unforgettable:
The Room
We originally booked a two-queen room, unsure if our kids would be staying with us. When my parents offered to watch them, we requested a switch to a king room instead. As a Hyatt Globalist, I also asked about a room upgrade. While all the standard suites were sold out (understandable for Valentine’s Day), they did upgrade our view—and we loved it!
Our King Room with a Courtyard View was spacious and well-designed, featuring a single pullout sofa and a charming coffee bar. The resort provides reusable water bottles with convenient refill stations, which was a nice touch. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and while no welcome gifts were given, we were offered a prickly pear margarita upon arrival. The remodeled bathroom was beautiful, and we really enjoyed the high-quality hygiene products, including the shampoo and soaps.
For larger families, I noticed a room type with two queen beds and a pullout sofa—a great option for extra space. While this room can’t be booked with points, it’s worth asking about an upgrade before check-in. If you’re hoping for more room, consider reaching out to the hotel in advance, mentioning any special occasion you’re celebrating and politely requesting an upgrade. Hotels often try to accommodate requests, so it’s definitely worth a try!
The Pools
The outdoor pools are heated to 84 degrees during the winter, making them perfect for year-round swimming. Our kids spent the day with us before heading out for the night, and they had a blast on the waterslide and in the beach-style sandy pool. With multiple large pools to choose from, plus a dedicated adults-only pool and hot tub, there’s something for everyone. The pool area has plenty of seating, and guests can enjoy food and drinks served poolside for a truly relaxing experience.
The Grand Club
At the time of our stay, the Grand Club had just opened two weeks ago, offering an upgraded experience for club guests. Breakfast is served from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM, with evening appetizers and complimentary wine and beer available from 5–7 PM. Dessert follows from 7–8 PM. During the day, guests can stop by for sodas, water, coffee, and a variety of snacks like cookies, M&Ms, Chex Mix, and fresh fruit.
The breakfast selection was somewhat limited, but everything was absolutely delicious, with a selection of fresh fruit, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, bagels, and pastries. A full coffee machine was available for lattes and other specialty drinks. While it seemed like there were some staffing challenges, we had no trouble getting what we wanted. Later, we even received a text apology acknowledging the growing pains of the newly opened club.
While I do sometimes miss the sit-down breakfast offered when there’s no club, I was impressed by the quality of the food. The club itself is spacious, featuring both indoor and outdoor seating plus a fire pit—and with the perfect weather, we loved enjoying breakfast outside!
The Activities
This family-friendly Scottsdale resort has plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. Beyond the pools, guests can enjoy complimentary bike rentals, a rock climbing wall, and a mini-golf course. On the day we checked in, there was even a petting zoo! The resort also features numerous pickleball and tennis courts, which we made sure to take advantage of—playing pickleball was definitely a highlight of our stay.
In the evening, we loved relaxing to live music while sitting in the cozy outdoor seating. It was the perfect way to unwind and soak in the atmosphere.
The Service
The service at the Grand Hyatt was excellent! They were attentive, friendly, and always ready to help with recommendations or special requests. We felt truly welcomed, which made our experience even more enjoyable.
The View
We absolutely loved the Courtyard view! I considered requesting a fire pit room since suites weren’t available, but I’m so glad I stuck with the Courtyard view. I would highly recommend this room type!
The Location
The Grand Hyatt Scottsdale is in a prime location, surrounded by some of Phoenix’s best restaurants. With shopping and dining just a short walk away, everything you need is close by. As locals, we absolutely love this part of Scottsdale!
Parking
The Grand Hyatt Scottsdale offers self-parking or Valet. For Globalist the parking fee is waived. Normally parking is $30 for self-parking and $35 for valet.
Hotel Status
Since we have Hyatt Globalist status, my sister transferred Hyatt points to me, and I booked both rooms under my account. I figured this would increase our chances of getting upgrades and benefits. Since we were only staying for one night, I decided not to use a Guest of Honor certificate. I also attempted to apply a club access award for the second room, but because the club was newly opened, it couldn’t be added.
To my surprise, at check-in, they honored club access and an upgrade for both rooms! I also registered both cars under my room number, and we weren’t charged for parking for their car—a nice unexpected perk!
Booking on Points
The Grand Hyatt Scottsdale is a category 6 hotel which means you can book for 21,000 to 29,000 points per night. When you book with points, you do not pay a resort fee. If you have Globalist, the parking fee will also be waived.
Why We’d Return
What really set this resort apart was its amazing vibe, atmosphere, and unbeatable location. Being able to book our stay entirely with Hyatt points, making it a $0 stay, made the experience even better. Instead of paying $600+ per night, we used 29,000 Hyatt points per night, easily transferred from our Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. We love staycations in Scottsdale, and this might just be one of our new favorite resorts for both families and couples!
With its prime location near some of the best dining and shopping in Phoenix, plus a perfect mix of relaxation and activities, the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale is a fantastic choice for your next family or couples getaway.
