Full Review of the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort

The Grotto at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando

We recently stayed at the Grand Cypress Resort while visiting Orlando for Universal Resort, and it turned out to be the perfect family resort with so many amenities. We spent two nights here, and there was still more to do than we could fit in. From the beautiful pools and lake activities, this is a place where everyone can have fun. Whether you have a couple of rest days between park visits or you’re skipping the parks altogether, it’s the ideal way to spend your last day in Orlando. Plus, it’s a fantastic use of Hyatt points thanks to its very low award rate.

The Welcome at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort

After landing, we picked up our rental car and headed straight to the resort. We had booked a suite using points—slightly fewer points than it would’ve cost to book two separate rooms. Since we have Hyatt Globalist status, we could have possibly received a complimentary suite upgrade, but we didn’t want to risk it because the standard rooms have double beds, which can feel a little tight for a family of five. Even so, booking two rooms on off-peak dates would only be 24,000 points per night (12,000 per room), which is still an amazing deal. We booked an executive suite for 21,000 points per night.

At check-in, we got an even better surprise—they upgraded us to the biggest suite on the property. Since we had already booked a suite, it made it easier for them to bump us up to something even more spacious. Needless to say, we were thrilled!

The Room & Suite at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort

We were upgraded to the Bi-Level Suite, which is an impressive 702 square feet spread over two stories. The king bedroom was upstairs, while the lower level featured a living area, dining space, kitchen area with a full refrigerator, and an additional bathroom. Outside, there was a massive patio with an outdoor dining table, plus three more balconies to enjoy. The king room even had a single sleeper chair, which was a nice bonus. Unfortunately, the large downstairs couch didn’t pull out into a sofa bed—but with all the extra space, I wasn’t about to complain.

One of our favorite parts of the suite was eating meals on the patio. Since this is a skyscraper-style hotel and we were near the top, our views of Orlando were pretty incredible—especially at sunset.

The Service at the HR Grand Cypress Resort

We experienced great service throughout our stay. Being upgraded definitely started things off on a high note, and the excellent breakfast service kept the good vibes going. The staff running the outdoor activities were especially kind and engaging with my kids, which made the whole experience even better for our family.

The Food at HR Grand Cypress Resort

We only ate breakfast at the resort, which was included as part of our Globalist benefits. Typically, the benefit covers two adults and two children, but we were not charged for the additional child. You could choose between the breakfast buffet or ordering off the menu. The food was solid either way, but I personally enjoyed ordering off the menu more than the buffet. Our waiter was exceptionally kind and told us he wouldn’t charge for the fifth person in our party, so all of us were covered—a very generous gesture that made our mornings even easier.

The Parking at HR Grand Cypress Resort

Parking is $37 per night for self-parking or $52 per night for valet service.

The Resort Fee at the HR Grand Cypress Resort

The resort fee is $50 per night if you’re paying with cash, but one of the best perks of booking with points is that the fee is completely waived. Here’s everything that’s included in that resort fee:

  • Four Round-Trip transportations to Disney, Daily
  • Round-Trip Transportation to Universal Studios/Island of Adventure
  • Scheduled Daily Transportation to Disney Springs
  • Pickleball Courts & access to Pickleball paddles and balls
  • Bike Rentals
  • Rock Climbing Wall
  • Sailboats, paddle boards, kayaks and paddle boat rentals
  • Daily recreational activities
  • 5 Miniature Golf Course alongside 7 Hole Pitch n Putt.
  • Ping pong table with access to paddles and balls
  • 1 Mile & 3 Mile Mapped Outdoor Jogging Courses
  • Basketball Court, ball included
  • 2 bottles of water, daily
  • Glass of Champagne upon arrival for guests 21 and over from 12pm-12am.
  • Nightly Movie at the pool (weather pending)
Pools at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando

The Pools and Hot Tubs

The pools and hot tubs are truly what make this resort stand out. There’s a fun waterslide pool area perfect for kids, plus a sprawling main pool with waterfalls, and a grotto that make it feel like a tropical escape. Inside the cave area, you’ll find foosball tables, hot tubs, and even a small walkway that passes right over the pools. My kids absolutely loved exploring it all.

On the opposite side of the property, there’s yet another large pool, so there’s never a shortage of space to swim and play. The resort also provides plenty of lounge seating, fresh towels, and sunscreen, making it easy if you didn’t pack your own sunscreen.

The Amenities at the Grand Cypress

As you can see from the list under resort fees, there’s no shortage of activities here. During our stay, we enjoyed biking around the property, tackling the rock climbing wall, shooting hoops on the basketball courts, and playing a few rounds of mini golf. We wished we had more time to try the sailboats or paddle boats—they looked like so much fun!

There are truly endless activities for families, and it’s such a lively, fun place to spend a day (or several). We didn’t end up using the complimentary transportation to Disney or Universal since we had our own car, but it’s a great perk if you prefer not to rent one.

Hotel Status

Having Hyatt Globalist status at this property saved us a ton. We enjoyed complimentary breakfast for our family of five, free parking, and an upgraded suite worth over $1,000 per night. Over a two-night stay, that’s more than $2,000 in perks—all thanks to status. If you have the chance to book this property with a Guest of Honor reservation, it’s absolutely worth it—the benefits here can add up to thousands in extra value.

Value Recap – 2 Nights at Grand Cypress with Globalist Status +Points

  • Breakfast for 5: ~$120 x 2 = $240
  • Free parking: $37/night × 2 = $74
  • Suite value: ($1,000 – $200 (standard room) × 2 = $1,600
  • Waived resort fee: $53.50/night × 2 = $107
    Total value of perks: $2,021

Location of the HR Grand Cypress

The location of this property is convenient, but if you plan to visit the theme parks every day, you might prefer staying a bit closer to save on travel time and parking fees. It’s about 15 minutes to Orlando Resort and 12 minutes to the Magic Kingdom. If you don’t mind being on the shuttle schedule, then it could be a great option. I think Grand Cypress is also a good option for a stay before or after your park adventures. There’s so much to do right at the resort—and in Orlando in general—that you could easily have a fun, full itinerary without ever setting foot in the parks.

Booking on Hyatt Points

This Hyatt is a Category 4, which means a standard award stay will cost between 12,000 and 18,000 points per night. It’s also great that you can use Hyatt Category 1–4 certificates here. Cash rates vary depending on the time of year, typically between $200 and $500 per night, so using points is definitely a smart value. As mentioned earlier, we used 21,000 Hyatt points per night to book an executive suite for our family of five, which made it an excellent redemption.

Family Rooms

I think the suites are a great option for families, but even the larger suites don’t always have enough beds for a family of five or larger. Booking two rooms can be a very reasonable value in points at this resort. At the lower end of 12,000 points per night, two connecting rooms would only cost 24,000 points per night—and that provides enough beds to comfortably fit everyone.

Would we return to the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort?

We would definitely return. With the extensive pools and endless activities for kids, my children would be thrilled to come back to this resort the next time we’re in Orlando.

Overall, Grand Cypress Resort is an excellent choice for families visiting Orlando. Between the spacious suites, endless kid-friendly activities, multiple pools, and the amazing perks for Hyatt Globalist members, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re planning a few rest days in between theme park adventures or want a relaxing getaway without the parks, this resort makes for a memorable stay. With its value in points, resort amenities, and family-focused fun, it’s definitely a place we’d love to return to on our next Orlando trip.
