The Schloss Roxburghe, part of the Destinations by Hyatt collection, might just be one of my all-time favorite hotel stays. Tucked away in the Scottish countryside, this castle-turned-luxury-hotel is truly magical—and we booked it entirely with Hyatt points! You can use points to stay in either the historic manor house or the modern estate house attached to the castle. We chose the estate house because I love sleek, updated design—and it did not disappoint. Even better? Breakfast is included for all guests, and since it’s a Category 4 Hyatt, you can use a Category 1-4 free night certificate or a relatively small number of points: 12,000-18,000 points/night. It’s also super family-friendly: you can book a suite that sleeps four directly with points!

We had one of those chaotic travel days, so the warm welcome at Schloss Roxburghe meant even more. Our flight was delayed, which caused us to miss our connection to Edinburgh—and the next available flight wasn’t until the following day, which would’ve meant missing our one-night stay at the castle completely. So, we pivoted: took a 4.5-hour train from London to Edinburgh, caught a bus to the airport to pick up our rental car, and made the hour-long drive to the hotel—finally arriving just after midnight. I had given the hotel a heads-up, and they kindly offered to have food waiting in our room if we wanted to order from the menu. We ended up skipping it since we weren’t sure when we’d get in, but sadly, the delay also meant we missed our dinner reservation at their main restaurant.

We booked both a suite and a standard room in the estate house to fit our family of five. I had asked if we could all stay in the suite, but the hotel let me know that wasn’t an option—so I used a Category 1–4 Hyatt certificate to book the second room. Both rooms were recently renovated and beautifully designed—honestly, some of my favorite hotel room designs to date.
The suite (pictured below) was stunning. It had a mix of classic and modern touches, with bold blue paneling, a four-poster bed, herringbone wood floors, and a cozy living area with a pull-out sofa (already made up!). There were two bathrooms, a separate bedroom, and a balcony with gorgeous views of the green, peaceful grounds.

The standard room was just as pretty, just a little smaller. We happened to arrive on our anniversary and found a sweet treat waiting in the room—such a thoughtful touch and a great start to a really special stay at the castle.

We really enjoyed relaxing at the pool, hot tubs, and sauna during our stay. Just a heads-up—there are only two designated kids’ swim times each day. When we visited, it was from 9-10 a.m. and 4–5 p.m., but I’d double-check with the property as it could change. While we wish the hours at Schloss Roxburghe were a bit more flexible, we were still able to make it work, even with a short stay.

There is no included club for Globalists at Schloss Roxburghe.
One of my favorite things at this hotel was the giant swing with a view of the castle. Not sure if that counts as an official amenity, but it was definitely a highlight! There are also lawn games like croquet, which looked super fun if we’d had more time. A newer addition is the kids’ club for ages 4–12. It wasn’t open yet during our visit, but it’s free and looks like a great spot for some fun activities and outdoor play.
As I mentioned earlier, we really appreciated the thoughtful service—especially the offer to have food brought to our room since we were arriving late. Breakfast service was also excellent, with staff who were friendly and attentive. Overall, the hospitality throughout our stay was wonderful.

We loved having a patio—something only available with certain rooms. It was a chilly morning during our stay, so we didn’t get to fully enjoy it, but the view overlooking the property was still beautiful. There are also some unique rooms located inside the historic manor, and some of them offer balconies for an extra special stay.

We only had the chance to enjoy breakfast here since a delayed flight caused us to miss our dinner reservation at Charlie’s. We heard great things about the restaurant though—sounds like dinner is a must. We’ll definitely try it next time. Breakfast, which is included for all guests, was a highlight of our stay. You can order off the menu plus enjoy the buffet, with specialty coffees and smoothies included as well. The service was excellent, and the views from the breakfast room made it even better.

Parking is free for everyone and conveniently located just across from the castle, only a short walk away.
We didn’t receive any extra perks from our Globalist status—we got exactly the rooms we booked. Breakfast is included for all guests. That’s part of what makes this hotel so special: you can enjoy beautifully designed rooms and a delicious breakfast without needing elite status.
The castle hotel is located just over an hour south of the Edinburgh Airport, with a scenic drive through the countryside—just keep in mind you’ll be driving on the left side of the road. Getting there was easy (well, easy for me—I wasn’t the one driving!).
There are a few activities in the surrounding area, including other castles and coastal spots just a short drive away. While we headed toward the Isle of Skye after our stay and didn’t have time to explore locally, there are definitely things to do nearby. You could even take a day trip to Edinburgh, though I’d recommend spending a few nights there—it’s such a beautiful city and truly worth experiencing by staying in the heart of it.

This hotel is part of the Hyatt portfolio and can be booked as a Category 4 property, costing between 12,000 and 18,000 points per night depending on whether your dates fall under off-peak, standard, or peak pricing. For a property like this, it’s an incredible deal!
Since it’s a Category 4, we were able to use a Category 1–4 free night certificate for one room. We booked the second room, a suite, using points—around 30,000 points. We opted for rooms in the estate section rather than the manor, but it’s such a unique feature that you can choose between both.

Booking directly into a suite with points is a great option for families—it sleeps up to four. While it’s a bit of a downside that the hotel doesn’t offer connecting rooms for larger families, we were still able to make it work just fine.
We loved everything about this property—the stunning room, the beautiful grounds, and the delicious breakfast. We only wish we had more time here, but we’re already planning a return visit. This hotel is truly a hidden gem when booked with points and the perfect place to kick off your Scotland adventure. After all, can you really top staying in a castle?
