With the recent changes to the Capital One Venture X lounge access, now more than ever, families need to rethink their travel strategy if lounges are still a priority. Before 2026, the Venture X was the go-to card for families: primary cardholders could bring 2 guests to Capital One lounges, authorized users got full access plus two guests, and you also got Priority Pass™ lounge benefits. But unfortunately, that era is ending.
Starting February 1, 2026:
So if you’re a family of four or five who used to stroll into lounges free…, this feels like a gut punch. But don’t worry, you’ve still got solid options that we will go over below.
Status: Not open to direct new applicants — must upgrade from another Marriott Chase card.
This has long been a favorite of frequent travelers with families because it historically offered unlimited Priority Pass & Sapphire Lounge guests with no per-visit fee. However, starting January 15, 2026, that changes to 2 complimentary guests per visit and subsequent guests at about $27 each.
Why it’s great for families:
This card has one of the most flexible guesting setups, just keep in mind the new 2026 limit on guests.
Card Benefits:
You can’t apply for the Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card directly. The only way to get it is by product changing from an eligible Chase Marriott card.
Here’s how the process works:
Right now is an especially good time to start this strategy because the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card is offering an elevated welcome bonus of 5 free night certificates (50,000 points each). This is one of those offers that typically only shows up once a year (sometimes twice).
The idea is:
This is one of my favorite long-term plays for families because it lets you earn a strong welcome bonus first, then later unlock one of the best lounge access setups still available for families.

If you’re an American Airlines frequent flyer, this is a great option for family lounge access.
Lounge Access:
For families flying American or a One World airline often, the ability to bring kids or spouses into Admirals Clubs free is a great perk.

This card is still one of the most comprehensive travel cards out there and has some of the best lounge access.
Lounge Access:
Family tip: Add a spouse/partner as an authorized user (about $195/yr), and now they have their own Priority Pass membership + access to Sapphire lounges, good for more entries without juggling guests with your own card.
Heads-up: The card’s annual fee is higher (~$795 after recent changes) but the combination of lounge access + travel credits can offset much of it.

This card comes with most travelers’ favorite lounge brand, the Centurion Lounge, but also comes with Priority Pass, which can help families.
What you get:
Family strategy: My husband and I each hold this card. We have an Escape Lounge in Phoenix Terminal 4 that we use almost every time we fly, so pairing this card with those benefits makes it a long-term keeper for us.

This is one of the best new cards that came out last year and it comes with lounge access.
Benefits:
I recommend getting this card in 2-player mode, each spouse gets one. That way, you’ll have lounge access for at least two kids per card, which is huge for families.
The credits on this card are easy to use and help offset the annual fee, and the miles are extremely valuable. They transfer 1:1 to American Airlines, 1:4 to I Prefer Hotel Rewards, plus many more partners giving you tons of flexibility for both flights and hotels.

Do the math and figure out which lounge network you use most; Priority Pass, Capital One lounges, or Sapphire lounges. Then look at the airports you frequently visit and decide which card makes the most sense for your travel patterns.
For example, if you’re often in airports with heavy Priority Pass lounge options, a card with strong Priority Pass access might win. If you’re mostly in airports with Sapphire lounges, that could shift your decision.
This combo lets you fly with kids and not worry about $35 or $45 per head per visit, which adds up quickly with multiple stops.
Which lounges are the best?
The good news? Lounge access for families isn’t gone, you just have to pick the right tools now that one of the most generous cards (Venture X) has dialed back its perks.
