Best Marriott Resorts in Hawaii for redeeming 50k Certificates

Your go-to resource for getting the best value out of your 50k Marriott free night certificates in Hawaii.

Redeeming Marriott's 50k free night awards in Hawaii

One of my favorite hotel offers, and one that seems to come around every year and sometimes even twice a year, is the Marriott Bonvoy® offer that includes five free night awards worth up to 50,000 points (50k Certificates) each after meeting the minimum spend. When you plan ahead, this offer can unlock some incredible resorts and easily make the welcome bonus worth $1,500 to $2,500 in hotel stays.

The Marriott Bonvoy® elevated offer is currently available! Learn More Here.

What makes these free night awards even more valuable is the ability to top each one off with up to 15,000 of your own Marriott Bonvoy® points. This gives you access to higher-priced properties and lets you stretch the value of these certificates even further.

Here are a few important things to know before using them:

  • These 50k certificates expire 12 months after they are deposited into your account, so it is important to plan your minimum spend timing carefully. Once you hit the spend requirement, the free night awards usually post pretty quickly after your statement closes.
  • You are eligible for this offer if you have not received it in the last 24 months, as long as you have not opened certain other Marriott cards. Marriott has stricter card rules than some other programs, so this is something to be aware of.
  • Each 50k certificate is worth up to 50,000 points, and you can add up to 15,000 of your own Marriott points per night.
  • You do not receive the fifth night free benefit when using free night awards.
  • You do not have to use all five 50k certificates at the same time. They can be used for separate stays if that works better for your travel plans.
  • Resort fees and parking fees may still apply, depending on the property.
  • You do need to be under 5/24 to get approved. If you are unsure what 5/24 means, check out my FAQs for a full explanation.

You can use these free night certificates anywhere Marriott has properties priced at 50,000 points or up to 65,000 points when topping them off. In this post, I am focusing specifically on Hawaii because it is one of the best places to maximize its value. Hawaii has some amazing resorts, and there are also solid options for families of five or six, which can be harder to find.

Keep in mind that flexibility can make a big difference with some of these resorts. Being open with your dates and booking further in advance can help you snag a better stay at a nicer property. The closer you book to your trip and the more popular the dates are, the harder it can be to find nights priced at 65,000 points or less.

Q: What if I do not have any other Marriott points?

American Express® Membership Rewards®, Chase Ultimate Rewards®, and Bilt Rewards® all transfer to Marriott Bonvoy®, so you still have options if you need to top off your 50k certificates. As long as the value makes sense, this can be a great way to unlock a better property. I always recommend watching for transfer bonuses, since that is often the best time to make the transfer.

Tips for finding nights under 65,000 points:

  1. When searching on mobile, search one night at a time so you can see the points price for each night. Turn on flexible dates, then select a property and open the calendar view to quickly spot nights priced at 65,000 points or less.
  2. When searching on a desktop, select flexible dates first. After choosing a property, open the calendar view to see which dates fall under the 65,000 point threshold.
  3. If you are flexible on the island, enter “Hawaii” (see below) as the destination instead of a specific island. Choose flexible dates and search using the map or list view, then sort by price.
  4. If you are traveling as a family of five, add five guests to the search and run it again (see below). This helps you quickly see which resorts can accommodate your family while still pricing under 65,000 points per night. Sometimes the search results are off, but you can quickly see the options.

One last tip for families of five or larger. My personal preference in Hawaii is to stay at a timeshare resort. It really is the best of both worlds. You get the extra space and kitchen of a villa, while still enjoying full resort amenities. It is often the most comfortable setup for larger families. There are many timeshare properties in Hawaii, and while some can be harder to book with points, it is definitely possible with flexibility and advance planning. I wrote about our timeshare experience below.

We have personally stayed at many of the hotels, resorts, and timeshares listed below because we are a little obsessed with Hawaii. I’ve highlighted our favorites throughout the list, and if you have a specific question about any property we’ve stayed at, feel free to reach out on Instagram. I’m always happy to help.

Maui

🏆 MTA Family Favorite: Residence Inn by Marriott Maui Wailea

What to know:

  • Kitchen or kitchenette available
  • Free breakfast included
  • Newer hotel in a great Wailea location
  • Comfortably sleeps 5 to 6 with two queens and a sofa bed
  • Some rooms include balconies
  • No resort fee
  • Self-parking is $40 per night

Estimated value of 5 free nights: $2,730 (based on the refundable rate I saw when researching)

We have stayed here and had a great experience. With Marriott Platinum status, we were upgraded to a larger suite with a balcony, which was such a nice surprise. We were also offered breakfast on our check-in day. I had checked in online around 8 am and was notified shortly after that our room was ready, so we headed over. When we arrived, they encouraged us to enjoy breakfast after checking in, which felt very generous and made a great first impression.

We loved the newer feel of the property, along with the large pool and beautiful grounds. For a Residence Inn, this one really stands out and feels like a great use of points.

We have stayed at this property and loved it. The grounds are expansive and beautiful, and honestly compare well to the Hyatt Regency Maui. Being beachfront is a huge plus, and we really enjoyed the beach walk pathway. It is also right next door to Whalers Village, which makes the location hard to beat.

Courtyard by Marriott Maui Kahului Airport

What to know:

An easy airport hotel option if you arrive late at night.

Estimated value of 5 free nights: $2,290

🏆 MTA Family Favorite: Marriott’s Kauai Lagoons – Kalanipu’u

Availability here is usually very limited, and when it does show up, it tends to be scarce. I was able to find a few two-night groupings a couple of months out in 2026. I am including this property because it offers two-bedroom options, which can be a huge win for families.

We stayed here in 2021 with my uncle, who invited us to join him after he booked using his Marriott timeshare. He has since passed away, so this property holds a lot of special memories for us. We have stayed at several Marriott timeshares over the years, mostly by attending timeshare presentations in exchange for discounted stays. It is something we do less often now, but it can still be a great deal if you are open to it.

What to know:

  • Not beachfront, but walkable to the beach
  • Two-bedroom units sleep 6 and can comfortably fit more, since they are very spacious
  • Large patios and beautiful grounds
  • Lava rock style pools with a small waterslide
  • Grills and outdoor tables available
  • Full kitchen, since this is a villa-style timeshare property
  • Resort fee: $0
  • Parking: $30

Estimated value of 5 free nights: $3,665

  • Two queen beds with a pull-out sofa, room option available. Not bookable with points, but worth asking for an upgrade for larger families
  • Resort fee: $0

Estimated value of 5 free nights: $2,185

The Laylow Waikiki, Autograph Collection

Residence Inn by Marriott Oahu Kapolei

What to know:

  • Studio-style rooms sleep 4

  • Free breakfast
  • Resort fee: $0
  • Parking: $40

Estimated value of 5 free nights: $1,735

Please note: There are several other Marriott properties in Oahu that price under 65,000 Marriott points per night, but I’ve only included my favorites here. Be sure to check Marriott.com to see all of your options.

Big Island

Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel

We stayed here in August 2021 on a girls’ trip and were upgraded to a one-bedroom with Marriott Platinum status. While the upgrade was nice, I personally would not return since the location and beachfront were not great compared to other options.

What to know:

  • Smaller rooms
  • Semi beachfront, but not the best beach
  • Balconies available
  • Destination fee: $22
  • Parking: $40

Estimated value of 5 free nights: $1,910

Marriott’s Waikoloa Ocean Club

What to know:

  • Vacation Club property, so availability may be limited
  • Beachfront
  • One-bedroom suites are around 800 square feet
  • Full kitchen
  • Balcony
  • Beautiful pools and a waterslide
  • Resort fee: $0
  • Parking: $0

Estimated value of 5 free nights: $4,585

🏆 MTA Top Pick: Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa

We stayed here in 2009 with a mixed stay between Big Island and Maui for our one-year anniversary. I remember it being beautiful at the time, but I’m sure it’s changed a lot in 17 years!

What to know:

  • Beachfront with white sand
  • Standard rooms sleep 4
  • Balcony
  • Beautiful resort grounds and pools
  • Waterslide
  • Resort fee: $40
  • Parking: $35

Estimated value of 5 free nights: $3,570

If Hawaii has been on your list, this offer is one of the best ways to make it happen without paying resort prices out of pocket. When used strategically, these five free night certificates can easily cover stays worth $2,500 to $3,000, especially at high-end Hawaii resorts where nightly rates add up fast. With a little planning and flexibility, this single offer can turn into an unforgettable five-night Hawaii vacation using mostly points. If you have been waiting for the right time to book Hawaii, this is one of those rare opportunities where the value truly speaks for itself.
