Best Hyatt property in Maui? Full Review of the Andaz Maui Resort in Wailea

sunset at the andaz maui

We just returned from a long weekend in Maui, staying at the Andaz Maui at Wailea, part of Hyatt. I’ve lost count, but this was probably our eighth visit to Maui—and it’s still one of our favorite places. Kauai might still hold the top spot for us, but Maui is always incredible. A short trip from Phoenix was perfect for relaxing at the beach and enjoying the resort, especially since we’ve explored most of the island’s waterfalls and beaches before. I always recommend renting a car in Hawaii—it’s the best way to explore. Normally, we love getting out to see new spots, but this time we just went to our favorite beaches and relaxed at the resort, and it was exactly what we needed. If you’re looking for a relaxing, luxurious getaway, the Andaz Maui is the perfect place to do it.

For this trip, we booked a split stay between the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and the Andaz. Read all about our experience at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort.

The Welcome at the Andaz Maui

We stopped for lunch and shave ice before check-in and arrived around 3:45 p.m., but our room wasn’t ready yet. The staff welcomed us with a refreshing lime juice drink—my kids weren’t fans, but I liked it. We were greeted by the valet with fresh flower leis for everyone, one of my favorite Hawaiian traditions. I love the scent of the flowers!

Walking into the Andaz Maui is an experience in itself. The open-air lobby and beautiful wood walkway immediately set the mood—it’s stunning. We were notified on the Hyatt app that we’d been upgraded to a partial ocean view suite, and I was so excited to experience it!

My kids were given color-changing sunglasses, and we received two reusable bags and four refillable water bottles. It was nice having water stations located throughout the resort. Since our room wasn’t quite ready, the staff invited us to wait in the lobby or the lounge. I wasn’t sure what the lounge referred to, so we chose to relax and enjoy the gorgeous ocean views for about 15 minutes. Our room was ready shortly after 4 p.m.

How we booked the Andaz Maui in Wailea

The Andaz Maui is part of the Hyatt portfolio and can be booked using World of Hyatt points. It’s a Category 8 property, which means award rates range from 35,000 to 45,000 points per night depending on whether it’s off-peak, standard, or peak pricing. We transferred our favorite Chase Ultimate Rewards® points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio—it’s super easy to do right from your online account. Our stay cost 40,000 points per night for a standard two-queen room. Since we hold Hyatt Globalist status, we were thrilled to receive an upgrade!

We used 40,000 points per night and paid $0 out of pocket. The cash rate during our stay was around $900 for a standard room and over $1,200 for the suite—making this an incredible redemption value. When you book with points, the resort fee is waived. Parking is typically an added cost, but it’s complimentary for Globalists.

The Room & Suite at Andaz Maui: Partial Ocean View Suite

We were upgraded to a Partial Ocean View Suite at the Andaz Maui, and it quickly became one of our favorite rooms we’ve stayed in. The suite is 850 square feet and features two patios, a spacious, separate living area, and a large bedroom with a king bed. There are two bathrooms—one with a freestanding soaking tub—and even Japanese-style toilets, which brought us back to our Japan memories. The room smelled absolutely amazing, and I loved the signature scent of the Andaz Maui’s soap and bath products—it’s such a small detail that makes the stay feel extra special.

Our view overlooked the pool with a clear glimpse of the ocean, making mornings on the patio so relaxing. The room includes a mini fridge that’s typically stocked with complimentary juices and sodas, though it seems they forgot to restock it in our room. We had just two bags of chips and two drinks—an Aloha beverage and a local root beer. One of my favorite things about Andaz properties is the included minibar and snacks! There’s also a coffee machine in the room, and coffee is available outside the restaurant in to-go cups each morning.

We also received a thoughtful welcome gift for my daughter’s birthday—cupcakes, sparkling cider, a birthday card, and a few extra treats. She was so excited! If you’re celebrating a special occasion, don’t forget to email the Andaz Maui team before your stay. Even if you’re not celebrating, it’s always worth politely asking about a possible upgrade—we’ve had great success with this over the years.

The living room sofa pulls out into a bed, and the chaise section could easily work as an extra sleeping space for a fifth person if needed. Since my husband wasn’t on this trip, there were just four of us, so we didn’t need a rollaway bed.

The Pools & Hot Tubs at the Andaz

The pools and hot tub at the Andaz Maui offer a relaxing, resort-style experience with incredible ocean views. The resort sits right on a beautiful beachfront in Wailea, and the beach here is fantastic—soft sand, calm water, and easy access directly from the property. It’s perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or just lounging by the shore after spending time at the pool.

There are three stunning infinity pools spread across different levels of the resort, cascading down toward the ocean. Each level offers its own unique view and atmosphere, with plenty of lounge chairs, umbrellas, and attentive poolside service. Guests will also find complimentary water and free sunscreen available near the pool areas, which is such a thoughtful touch.

At the lowest level, there’s a main zero-entry pool that’s very family-friendly and great for kids. I’ve heard that poolside snacks are sometimes handed out during the day, but since our stay was only one night, we spent our time in the pools during the evening and early morning. There’s also one hot tub for relaxing after a day at the beach.

One of my favorite things about the Andaz Maui pools is being able to watch the lu’au show from the water in the evening. Even if you don’t have a seat at the lu’au, you can still enjoy the music and performances right from the pool—or even from your room’s patio, depending on your view.

For guests looking for a more peaceful atmosphere, there’s also an adults-only pool reserved for those 18 and over. We didn’t visit this one since we were traveling as a family, but it looked like a beautiful, quiet place to unwind.

The Resort Grounds at the Andaz

The resort grounds at the Andaz Maui are beautifully designed, though smaller compared to the nearby Hyatt Regency Maui. The property sits directly on the beachfront, which makes it incredibly convenient to walk right from the pools to the sand within minutes.

The cascading infinity pools are the highlight of the resort’s landscape and add to the overall beauty of the grounds. Because the resort is more compact, you won’t find as much lush Hawaiian foliage as you might at some of the larger Maui resorts, but the clean, modern design and ocean views more than make up for it.

The Amenities at the Andaz Maui

The Andaz Maui includes so many great amenities in the daily resort fee (waived on award nights). Here’s what’s covered in the $50 per day charge:

  • GoPro Hero Camera Rental
  • Outrigger Excursion
  • Guided Kayak Tours
  • Stand up paddleboard (SUP) lessons
  • Snorkel equipment use
  • Fitness Classes (2x daily)
  • Bikes
  • Non-alcoholic welcome beverage
  • Ukulele lessons
  • Hula lessons
  • Coconut Husking
  • Coconut Weaving
  • Photo Session with Pacific Dream Photography
  • (2) Reusable water bottles
  • Custom Andaz bag upon arrival
  • Lei greeting
  • Courtesy vehicle in Wailea area
  • Beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels
  • Reef-safe sunscreen available on all pool decks

The highlight of the Andaz Maui is definitely its extensive included amenities. During our short stay, we were only able to take advantage of the complimentary snorkel gear, but I love that guests can also book kayak or outrigger excursions directly through the resort.

Another favorite offering is Pacific Dream Photography, which captured our family photos on a previous trip to Hawaii. Those pictures remain some of our most favorite family memories, and having the option to book a professional photographer on-site makes it even more special.

The Service at Andaz

The service at the Andaz Maui was outstanding during our short stay. I do wish we could’ve checked in a little earlier and checked out a bit later (we were given 1 pm checkout!), but it’s hard to complain when we were upgraded to such a beautiful suite. We also received excellent service at breakfast—everyone was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better.

The Parking

Parking at the Andaz Maui is valet-only and costs $59 per night. Guests with Hyatt Globalist status receive complimentary valet parking.

Food at the Andaz

We only had the chance to experience breakfast at the Andaz Maui, but it was excellent! Breakfast at Ka’ana Kitchen is served buffet-style with made-to-order eggs and an extensive selection of fresh items. There were plenty of options, including fresh fruit (except no pineapple!), pancakes, waffles, meats, cheeses, and pastries—and almost everything we tried was delicious. They even had one of my Hawaiian favorites, coconut syrup.

While specialty coffees aren’t included (only drip coffee), the coffee was very good. A variety of fresh fruit juices, including lilikoi juice, is also available and was a favorite with my kids.

Service was fantastic, and our entire breakfast was complimentary thanks to our Hyatt Globalist status, which covers two adults and two children. The restaurant itself has both indoor and outdoor seating that overlooks the pools and resort grounds, making it a beautiful and relaxing place to start the day at the Andaz Maui.

Other restaurants on site include Morimoto Maui and Chef’s Table at Ka’ana Kitchen, as well as a lounge for small bites and drinks, and a beach bar.

Hotel Status

Having Hyatt Globalist status was incredibly valuable during our stay at the Andaz Maui. From getting the $59 nightly valet parking fee waived to receiving an amazing suite upgrade, the benefits really added up. The included breakfast alone—valued at about $181 for the four of us—made a huge difference.

Hyatt Globalist free breakfast at Andaz Maui

If you’re not a Globalist yourself but can book through a Guest of Honor award, I highly recommend doing so at this property. The complimentary breakfast is worth experiencing, and the possibility of an upgrade can take your stay at the Andaz Maui to the next level.

Location of this Hyatt

The Andaz Maui is located in one of my favorite areas of the island, Wailea. This part of Maui feels like a dream, with beautiful, lush landscaping, scenic golf courses, tree-lined streets, and plenty of excellent restaurants. The resort is also just a short walk from the Shops at Wailea, which offer a wide selection of boutiques, dining options, and more.

You can’t beat the walkway along the beach in Wailea. It’s perfect for a morning stroll or an evening walk when the temperature is just right. As mentioned earlier, the resort sits on one of the best beaches on the island, making it easy to enjoy the sand and ocean anytime you like.

When you’re visiting Wailea, make sure to stop by Gus’ Shave Ice. It’s one of our favorite shave ice spots on the island, and we make it a point to visit multiple times on each trip to Maui.

Why we’d return

We would absolutely love to return to the Andaz Maui. We enjoyed the luxurious accommodations, outstanding service, and the incredible breakfast. The resort also offers a wide range of amenities that we didn’t get to fully enjoy during our short stay, like canoes and paddleboards, which makes a return visit a must.

This property is perfect for couples seeking a romantic getaway, but it’s also a great option for families. You really can’t go wrong here. If you’re trying to decide between resorts in Wailea, I’d recommend a split stay with the Hyatt Regency Maui, spending more nights at the Andaz to fully take advantage of its amenities and beachfront location.
