American Express just announced a change to one of our favorite benefits on The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.—and I’m really disappointed with this one.
The good news: The semi-annual $300 Fine Hotel and Resorts Credit is being renamed to the annual lodging statement credit and is expanding to include eligible Airbnb Luxe stays, with up to $300 available each half of the year. There’s also a new $250 Airbnb Experiences credit, but you’ll need to book a qualifying prepaid Airbnb Luxe stay through American Express Travel® to unlock it. Your everyday Airbnb rental won’t qualify.
Plus, you can now book Airbnb stays through American Express Travel® and earn 5X points with either Platinum card! But to use the $300 semi-annual lodging credit, you’ll need to book an eligible Airbnb Luxe property for at least two nights. I’ve heard those come with some pretty hefty price tags, but I’m sure there are good deals to be had.
Here’s where I’m starting to see some potential: a girls’ getaway or a trip with extended family! You could book an eligible Airbnb Luxe stay, use your $300 credit, and split the remaining cost with friends or family. Or cover the stay yourself if those savings have you feeling extra generous. 😉
Look at this gorgeous, modern Airbnb below—just over $1,100 for two nights! I could absolutely see myself using my $300 credit toward a stay like this, especially with friends or family to split the rest. Plus on top of the $300 savings, you’ll get a $250 Airbnb experience credit if you book a qualified experience!

A lot of the properties I’m finding have three or more bedrooms, which could work really well for a group. The more I search, the more excited I’m getting about the possibilities. You know I love a unique Airbnb! I did see ones under $1,000 for two nights as well!
The bad news: The biggest change for us? Starting January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings will need to be at least TWO nights to qualify for the $300 lodging credit.
We book one-night stays quite a bit because that $300 credit can bring our out-of-pocket cost to virtually $0, while we still get perks like breakfast for two, a property credit, and guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout. That’s been a pretty sweet setup!
Most recently, we used this credit at the beautiful JW Marriott Hotel Nara in Japan, bringing our out-of-pocket cost to just $44 per room! On top of that, each room received a $125 hotel credit, breakfast for two, lounge access, welcome gifts, a room upgrade, and late checkout. The service here was incredible.

My husband books one room with his card, and I book the other with mine, so we get the benefits for both rooms. For our family of five, that adds up to some serious savings! Plus, the hotels almost never charge us for breakfast for our fifth person.
We tend to move around quite a bit on our trips, so one-night stays are often our go-to. We’re really going to miss this option!
The benefit can still offer great value, but requiring two nights makes those nearly free luxury stays harder to pull off. I’ll keep you posted on what I find and whether I still find the benefit useful.
What do you think of these changes? For us, losing the one-night option is definitely disappointing. Another day, another travel perk getting a little harder to use.
